A Love Letter to All Brides

Fostering Self Love, in Honor of National Eating Disorder Awareness Week

You are loved. Not for the size of your wedding dress, and not for the numbers on the scale. You are loved by your family, friends, and the person who stands waiting for you at the end of the aisle. Here is your wedding love letter.

You are loved. Not for the calories you counted, and not for the miles you ran. You are loved for your experiences. For the obstacles you’ve overcome, for the care and time you’ve given to others. For your own powerful knowledge. For the unique and valuable way you see the world and the future.

You are loved. Not for the body image you see in the mirror, and not for the false image of beauty you’ve been force-fed your entire life. You are loved for your hopes and dreams. You are loved for your ability to imagine a future in which your family and circle of friends grows to include newcomers.

You are loved. Not for the unsustainable exercise or the poisonous diet pills being shoved down your throat. You are loved for the flavor you add to life. Your smile, your laugh, your embrace – all nutrients that feed the soul of the world. When you harm yourself, you deprive the world of your essence.

You are loved. Free yourself from the heavy weight of guilt and pain that twisted media burdens your body with. Choose love. Choose happiness. Choose listening to your body and how it feels, not some rude comment or Instagram diet fad.

Feel beautiful in your own soul. No one else has experienced, felt, or seen exactly what you have – and therefore you should not want or need to look like everyone else. Feel beautiful because you are loved. Feel beautiful because of what your body can do! Walk, run, skip, dance, lay down in a field of clover, because you want to, not because you should! Feel beautiful because you are surrounded by people who love you and need you. Here is a wedding love letter to remind you.

You are loved.

What is NEDAW? And What Does it Have to Do With Weddings?

NEDAW stands for National Eating Disorder Awareness Week. It is a nationally recognized week that focuses on educating and building awareness for eating disorders and how they can be prevented or treated. Eating disorders are both a mental and physical illness that can affect everyone. National surveys estimate that 20 million women and 10 million men in America will have an eating disorder at some point in their lives. Our team at Southern Bride & Groom believes that it is our responsibility to advocate for NEDAW as our industry is closely intertwined with body images, fashion, beauty, and health. For more information on NEDAW check out their official website!
